Pot Pairings: 5 Delicious Food and Strain Combinations

pot n cheese

Food and drink pairings are commonly discussed in cuisine, but what about pot pairings? In my experience, some food tastes better after medicating with different strains, and some taste worse! That is why we have put together this handy guide to help you pick the perfect strain to go with your cannabis.

1. Green Crack

Green Crack has an earthy flavor with some mango and citrus notes.

Drink

If you are looking to go the healthy route, a nice green tea pairs well with this strain. If you are looking to have a bit more fun, a glass of a citrusy moscato will not only accentuate your buzz, but taste great as well!

Protein

Pork and seafood are the best protein after medicating with Green Crack. The slight mango flavor complements strong flavors like bacon, oysters, lobster, ham, and pork loin.

Fruits & Vegetables

The best fruits and vegetables to go along with this strain include tomatoes, corncurrantsbell peppers, and oranges.

Cheeses

The best cheeses to complement Green Crack are very sharp and very mild cheeses. Emmental, blue cheese, and Parmesan are some of the best pot pairings for this strain.

Nuts

The mango notes go perfectly with macadamia.

Sweets

Green Crack goes well with dark chocolate and honey.

Spices, Aromatics & Extras

If you plan on making a recipe, you probably need some spices. Maybe you want to get fancy and add a few aromatic notes! Some of the best include peppermint, rosemary, ginger, chili paste, and douchi, which is fermented and salted black soybean.

2. 9 Pound Hammer

9 Pound Hammer is a light, earthy strain with heavy grape overtones.

Drink

Because this strain already has such heavy grape notes, stay away from red wine. Instead, pick up a chablis or a white burgundy. If you do not care for alcohol, sweetened white tea or unsweetened apple juice will do the trick.

Protein

The earthy tones with slight grape notes are perfect to pair with chicken or lamb.

Fruits & Vegetables

9 Pound Hammer has a grapey flavor, so obviously grapes, mixed berries, and apple complement it. Some of the best veggies and greens include grape leaves, vine-ripened tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, spinach, chickpeas, and olives.

Cheeses

The best cheeses to pair with this strain are sweet and sour cheeses like feta, ricotta, and mascarpone.

Nuts

Sprinkle some pecans or walnuts over your meal, whether its sweet or savory. These flavors will complement the earthy notes.

Sweets

Due to the grape flavor, milk chocolate is not your friend. Instead, try some dark chocolate.

Spices, Aromatics & Extras

A little paprika, basil, black pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, and dill will go a long way. If you are looking to go a lighter or more aromatic route, try some lemongrass and olive oil.

3. Blue Dream

Blue Dream has strong blueberry overtones with a sugary sweet aftertaste comparable to candy.

Drink

Blue Dream’s blueberry flavor is the most notable element, which is why I suggest a red wine with plum notes, such as merlot. Don’t want alcohol? Try some black tea. It tastes fantastic with this strain.

Protein

Because of the strong fruity notes that Blue Dream has, there are only a few proteins that really pair well with it. Some of the best are lamb, beef steak, and other gamey meats, such as bison.

Fruits & Vegetables

Blueberries, strawberries, bananas, blackberries, and currants are some of the best fruity pot pairings for this strain. If you’re looking for some tasty veggies, red onion, lettuce, spinach, cherry tomatoes, and kale are good choices.

Cheeses

The interesting effect with different cheeses and Blue Dream is that you can bring out the tones of the strain with different types of cheeses. If you want to tone down the sweetness, pair it with a mild, yet savory cheese like Asiago or Parmesan. If you want to bring out the blueberry, pair it with a sweet cheese like mascarpone.

Nuts

Just like with cheeses, your choice of nut will reflect the flavor the strain takes on. If you don’t care for the overall sweetness, grab some walnuts or salted almonds to tone it down. If you want it to take on more of a sweet flavor, grab a handful of pecans, macadamia nuts, or pistachios.

Sweets

Since Blue Dream is already quite sweet, it goes with a number of sugary goodies. Milk chocolate, white chocolate, dark chocolate, and toffee are some of the best pot pairings for this particular strain.

Spices, Aromatics & Extras

If you want to overpower the blueberry flavor, you can pick up the candy-like notes by adding peppermint or spearmint. If you would like to pick up the blueberry notes, I would suggest adding vanilla.

4. Girl Scout Cookies

Contrary to popular belief, Girl Scout Cookies does not always taste strongly of the Girl Scout Cookies we know and love. In fact, there are different strains that do taste that way, but plain old GSC does not. The strain is actually more pungent and earthy, followed by a light sweet note at the very end.

Drink

Because of the pungent, earthy flavors, a pink moscato or syrah pair nicely with it. Both black tea and dark green tea also complement the strain.

Protein

The subtle sweetness and pungent earthiness is what makes GSC so versatile. It can be used with a number of proteins, including fish, lamb, steakpoultry, and pork.

Fruits & Vegetables

GSC’s complex flavors make it perfect to pair with most fruits and veggies. Some of the best include mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach, onionscarrots, lemon, orange, and raspberry.

Cheeses

This strain will taste wonderful with a number of cheeses, but some of the best include mozzarellaprovolone, white cheddar, and Gouda.

Nuts

The earthy qualities of this strain make it the perfect pot pairing for several types of nuts, such as walnuts, almonds, pistachios, pecans, and pine nuts.

Sweets

Try some dark chocolatepeanut butter, or some toffee along with GSC. The strong flavors will tone down the pungent aroma.

Spices, Aromatics & Extras

The possibilities are nearly endless with GSC due to its versatility. Think of it as the salt and pepper of the cannabis world. For that reason, there are many spices that pair well with it, but some of the first to try include garlic, rosemary, thyme, cinnamon, nutmeg, basil, ginger, and oregano. Lemongrass, peppermint, and olive oil are some other additions to consider.

5. Purple Wreck

Purple Wreck is another strain with a strong grape flavor. However, it takes on more of a berry overtone in the later notes. That makes it a very sweet strain.

Drink

The sweetness of this strain makes this a not-so-perfect match for any red wines, but we highly suggest a chardonnay. If you don’t drink alcohol, try some white tea.

Protein

The sweet flavor can make Purple Wreck difficult to pair with particular proteins. Some of the best proteins are lamb, seasoned beef, and fish.

Fruits & Vegetables

Since this strain already has a strong grape and berry flavor, it is always safe to pair with grapes, berries, apple, banana, and kiwi. The best veggies are spinach, vine-ripened tomato, grape leaves, and seasoned chickpeas.

Cheeses

Due to the strong berry flavors, a lot of savory cheeses just will not pair well with Purple Wreck. Instead, try sweeter or very sour cheeses like ricotta, mascarpone, and feta.

Nuts

Walnuts, pecans, and macadamia nuts will complement the berry tones best.

Sweets

Since Purple Wreck is already naturally sweet, it pairs well with white chocolate, dark chocolate, toffeebuttercream, maple, and jams.

Spices, Aromatics & Extras

A lot of spices and aromatics simply will not pair with berry flavors, but some that will include vanilla, cinnamon, almond extractnutmeg, oregano, olive oil, and lemongrass.
