Gorilla Glue #4

Gorilla Glue #4 won the Cannabis Cup in Los Angeles, CA in 2014, and I learned why as soon as I picked it up from a dispensary in Detroit, MI two years ago. Ever since then, I have actively sought out this hybrid strain, full of fantastic properties.

From the beginning, it had a strong aromatic profile, and it was the smell that ultimately sold me on the strain. After I tried it, I realized that I had found something very special. It was one of the best strains I’d ever had.

The Herb

Gorilla Glue #4 in its plant form.

Gorilla Glue #4 is a derivative of its parent plants, Chem’s Sister and Chocolate Diesel, which are both sativas. It is also speculated that it includes some Sour Dubb. The plant takes around 60 days to flower, and when it finally does, you will see the beautiful, glittering crystals of lavender and silver-gold.

Taste & Smell

This strain has a strong, pungent aroma. A mere smell cannot do this glorious plant justice, though. The complexity of this strain is found in its flavor profile. Interestingly enough, the concentrate and the flower taste quite different from one another. The bud takes on the flavor of chocolate with some earthy layers.

The concentrate, on the other hand, tasted much more minty, along with a hint of pine. The chocolate flavor became more of an undertone, accompanied with slight fruity notes.

Psychoactive Properties

Gorilla Glue #4 is a happy, uplifting strain. For that reason, it is the perfect strain if you suffer from any kind of situational anxiety or an anxiety disorder.

I use concentrates more than herb, so I am familiar with the extreme euphoria they cause. I noticed that Gorilla Glue #4 gave me even more euphoria than the average concentrate, though. Rarely does herb uplift me, but this strain was able to.

If you have a hard time finding your creativity, or maybe you just haven’t felt inspired, I would highly recommend this strain. The amount of writing that I was able to get done was surprising even to myself. Despite having wracked my brain all day, I just could not get the amount of work done that I had intended. After a small dab of Gorilla Glue #4 concentrate, I was alert and finished everything that I planned on finishing, plus some! This is easily one of the most noticeable psychoactive effects of them all.

Pain Relief

I accredit this effect to the strong body high that you feel, which is accompanied by a head rush that allows you to stay awake and focused, as well as pain-free.

While this strain does make you more alert after about twenty to thirty minutes, in my experience, I felt exceptionally tired for those twenty to thirty minutes of waiting for the rush of energy to take effect.

What it Treats

Whether you have an anxiety or depressive disorder, or even something as serious as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Gorilla Glue #4 can help you. The anti-anxiety and antidepressant properties will help you ease all of those stressors out of your mind so you can face the day with your head held high, literally and figuratively!

Chronic pain is something that I have suffered from ever since I was a teenager. Due to an extended range of motion, my muscles oftentimes cannot become as strong as they should, leading to a lot of muscle tension in my back. Gorilla Glue #4 effected treated my pain and helped me stay awake and creative so I could get through a day of work without being in pain.

Though this strain can keep you alert and awake after some time, it does make you rather tired for the first little while, so if you medicate and then lay down, you should be able to combat your insomnia and sleep well.

Lack of Appetite

If you struggle eating, Gorilla Glue #4 may be the right daytime medicinal marijuana for you. While it wakes you up after the short period of fatigue, it also makes you hungry, just like a lot of other strains.

The Cons

Dry Mouth

Dry mouth is a side effect that you will oftentimes find with marijuana, especially with high-quality strains. Gorilla Glue #4 is no different.

Dry Eyes

Dry, itchy, bloodshot eyes are another common side effect that you will find with most strains of marijuana. If you are prone to this symptom, some eye drops should help relieve you of it.

This is a less common symptom, but if marijuana makes you feel dizzy sometimes, this strain may have that effect on you. If you begin to feel dizzy, drink some water and relax until the effect wears off.

Would I Smoke it Again?

I would most definitely smoke Gorilla Glue #4 again, and I have actively sought it out from dispensaries since I’ve had the pleasure to try it. This miraculous hybrid is the perfect combination of an alert and creative head rush with a relaxed, uplifted body high. From its complex, elevated flavor and aromatic profile to its desirable psychoactive effects and medical benefits, Gorilla Glue #4 has fully earned a 5/5 in my book. It is the first strain that I have tried that has earned such a high rating.
