There are a lot of special strains out there, but 9 Pound Hammer is in a league of its own. This is one of my personal favorites, not only because of its fantastic body high, but also because of its fantastic taste and smell. I struggle with chronic back pain and sometimes it is hard for me to get up and do everyday activities without the help of an indica or a hybrid. When my back pain is at its worst, I usually go for an indica. 9 Pound Hammer is what I would call a high-quality indica.
The concentrate is dark amber and it smells quite strong for a concentrate, which usually indicates a fantastic indica. The herb was rather green with golden and violet flakes. I knew I was in for a treat.
Since 9 Pound Hammer is 80% indica, the plant itself is a spectacular shade of purple. It is a combination of Gooberry, Hells OG, and Jack the Ripper. It is not that tall, but that does not mean it is an ugly plant by any means. The succulent crystals are enough to make any cannabis enthusiast drool.
This particular strain is easier to grow indoors and it stands at about medium height. It has a very high yield and is quite resistant to mildew, which makes it easier to grow than some more finicky strains. It is recommended to trim the bottom branches.
Taste & Smell
Since 9 Pound Hammer derives from Gooberry, it naturally has quite a sweet flavor with heavy grape overtones. However, it is complex in flavor, and there are light earthy undertones. The earthiness is more evident in the plant’s aroma, and much more evident in the concentrate.
9 Pound Hammer has very strong relaxing properties, which makes it perfect for anyone that suffers from anxiety, whether it is situational or a chronic condition.
This strain makes me feel more euphoric than any other strain that I have tried, perhaps other than Gorilla Glue #4. While everyone has different body chemistry and some say that this effect is less noticeable for them, I would personally recommend it if you are looking for that happy, floating feeling.
Being 80% indica, this psychoactive effect is not surprising. The body high that you feel after medicating with 9 Pound Hammer is quite intense, which makes it phenomenal for pain relief. I suffer from chronic back pain and headaches, and I found 9 Pound Hammer to rid me of that.
While this can be a negative, for those that struggle sleeping, 9 Pound Hammer can help. If you are looking for nighttime medicine, this is the right strain for you. However, if you are trying to stay awake and get some daytime activities done, you may want to try a hybrid or a sativa instead.
What it Treats
As aforementioned, this strain is perfect for deep relaxation. It has anti-anxiety and antidepressant properties, so it can effectively treat depression and anxiety of all different kinds.
Just like many indicas, 9 Pound Hammer effectively treats pain. The intense body high combats any pain you may have, whether it is chronic or not. If you struggle with more severe pain, consider using a concentrate or an edible instead of herb. Since concentrates and edibles are much more potent, it will rid you of pain better.
Lack of Appetite
The munchies can be a bad thing for a lot of people, but if you struggle eating for a psychological or physical reason, 9 Pound Hammer may be able to help you keep some food down.
Cottonmouth is a common complaint with a lot of strains, and 9 Pound Hammer is no different. You may be searching for your own saliva for awhile, but it is worth it for all the positive effects!
Red and itchy eyes is just as common as dry mouth. This strain is worse than some, but better than others.
If you are trying to watch your caloric intake, be careful with this strain. It’s prone to turning your stomach into a bottomless pit of cheese fries and shame.
Would I Smoke it Again?
9 Pound Hammer was one of the better indicas that I’ve had the pleasure to try, and as I usually prefer indicas anyway, I would definitely try it again. I have gotten it from the dispensary a few times since I had the pleasure of trying it for the first time, and I will most likely purchase it again. It treats both my chronic back pain and my anxiety, which is the only way I can get through the day and remain efficient. For those reasons, I would give this strain a 4.8. I would certainly recommend it, especially if you are an indica fan like I am.
