Cannabis has led to a number of pop culture developments, including plenty of stoner movies. Here are some of the best.

12. Dude, Where's My Car (2000)


Ashton Kutcher and Seann William Scott costar in this hilarious film from the beginning of the millennium. The film’s title pretty much says it all. Two good friends forget what happened, so they are trying to retrace their steps to find the car that they lost. Pack yourself a bowl, grab some munchies, and prepare to laugh your way through the whole film!

11. Mallrats (1995)


Kevin Smith is known for writing awesome stoner movies, and Mallrats is no exception. Jay and Silent Bob are in the film, smoking the herb as usual, as well as Jason Lee and Ben Affleck. Like the name suggests, it’s a film about useless mall rats trying to find their way through life.

Mark Wahlberg stars as John Bennett in this Seth MacFarlane-produced flick, featuring a talking teddy bear who has been his lifelong best friend. However, things start to go awry when John’s love interest demands he gives up a life of drinking and smoking pot with his friend, Ted.

Doug Benson follows in Morgan Spurlock’s footsteps when he decides to take in a substance for thirty straight days. However, Morgan’s substance actually hurt him. In Super High Me, Doug just smokes a lot of marijuana.

7. Half Baked (1998)


Neal Brennan and Dave Chappelle wrote this silly stoner movie before producing The Chappelle Show, featuring cameos from some of your favorite stoner icons, including Willie Nelson and Cheech and Chong. Their adventure begins after their friend is arrested for marijuana. The friends then decide that they have to raise enough money to bail him out, leading to a number of hilarious obstacles that are sure to keep you laughing for the entire movie.

6. Up in Smoke (1978)


Cheech and Chong, the original stoner movie icons, star in this hilarious film about a road trip gone bad. Up in Smoke is their first movie, and it will hook you for their other work like Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie.

5. Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989)


Bill and Ted is a movie starring Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, featuring George Carlin. It is about two characters that actually aren’t shown smoking pot at all. However, their spacey nature is what makes Bill and Ted naturally endearing.

4. Friday (1998)


Friday stars Ice Cube and Chris Tucker. Smokey owes their drug dealer $200, leaving the duo with sixteen hours to make the cash. He is given marijuana to sell, but sadly, he ends up smoking it, leading to a number of unfortunate obstacles throughout their Friday.

3. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)


Based on Hunter S. Thompson’s infamous novelFear and Loathing in Las Vegas is the story of a hectic, drug-addled road trip to Las Vegas. Hunter S. Thompson’s trips are forever-engrained in our culture through this cult classic.

2. Pineapple Express (2008)


After discovering the greatest strain they ever tried, Dale Denton (Seth Rogen) and Saul Silver (James Franco) accidentally witness a terrible crime. Pineapple Express is what ends up leading the antagonists right to them. If you’re looking for the right combination of action and comedy, Pineapple Express might be for you.

Dazed and Confused was Matthew McConauhey‘s first major role, playing a charming, yet sleazy stoner. The movie is your typical high school movie with some mid-’70s pothead flare, as well as a lot of screwing with freshmen.
